Adults
You always had the sense that the way you interacted with the world was somehow different.
Like life is a puzzle to be solved but somehow you've been missing some of the necessary clues.
Before your ADHD diagnosis, you may have been diagnosed with depression or anxiety due to the constant problem-solving and swimming upstream you have been doing for so long.

As a first generation American, I often felt different but I had no idea I had ADHD until my marriage was falling apart and a counselor suggested I get tested.

It wasn't until my knee surgery that I had any clue I was ADHD. I was a daily runner and when I couldn't do that anymore, it was like all the dominoes fell at once.
-Andrea
Since elementary school, stomach aches and anxiety were my tells. I can't believe I got diagnosed at 44 - and it only happened because of my child's testing process.
- Megan, SSC Founder
I'm always looking for a way to quiet my brain. I think so many thoughts at once but they pop in and out just as quickly as they came. Getting my ADHD diagnosis was the first step in learning to wrangle my creativity.
-Joachim
In my last job, I dropped the ball or missed deadlines. With hindsight, I realized it was because I wasn't invested in the work anymore. My ADHD played a part, but I'm "less ADHD" now that I'm doing what I'm naturally good at.
-Samantha
Symptom Solving is Exhausting
When we are diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, it can make us rethink just about everything. And stay up far too late going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole trying to understand our new diagnosis.
A shared experience for many late-diagnosis adults is sadness for the many paths we could've taken with adequate early interventions. And sometimes we feel ashamed, like, "Did everyone know this about me except for...me?" But it is never too late to live your best life.
